“Don’t try to be consistently great. Whatever the pursuit, you’ll get a lot further by getting great at being consistent.” It holds true for so many things! Steadiness over status, always. Happy belated, by the way.
So many folks are afraid of not having an A workout, they don't have the confidence nor experience to know that B/B+ workouts will get them the fitness. Proving yourself (to yourself) in training is a surefire way to burn out.
100%! Good enough is usually good enough if you do it consistently enough. [Unsurprisingly this also extends far beyond running.] Case in point: I've applied this to training but also with this newsletter. Some, if not most, weeks it's good enough. On occasion it's really great. But it is what it is because it's been consistently good enough for a long f*cking time!
I love the idea of A / B / C workouts. Anything above zero compounds, and it's critical to recognize. Zooming out and seeing the progress really helps too.
Yes, exactly. The nice thing about A/B/C is that it's not binary. There's a spectrum, and within that, wiggle room, i.e., I might not have an "A" effort in me today but I do have a B or a C, and, to your point, that will compound over time.
I’m reading Mark Coogan’s book at the moment and today I stopped my interval session a rep short because it felt like I had put the work in, but could eke out one more quality rep. Kept it at B+ today to I can come back tomorrow and the next day.

Yes, exactly. Many (if not most) of these principles are universal. And thank you!

Love it. My own approach mirrors Mark's in so many ways, which isn't a surprise given that we both fell from the Bob Sevene coaching tree.
